Cyber Dude

Like a blind man
On a canyon’s edge of a panoramic view
He sensed the danger
But he needed to touch the beauty
He had walked this path of so many years
It felt comforting under his feet .... but unfulfilling
He met many on this road, yet touched no one
For he chose not to. He had no need

One day a stranger whispered in his ear
He sensed pain in her voice
Pain that equaled his own
Oh, how it soothed him
Reaching feelings long abandoned
Awakening his deepest desires

He talked of leaving this path
For a road he had almost forgotten
The road to truth and love
But the past wouldn’t let him out of its grasp
Although he struggled
It had become his protector

Her whispers didn’t go away for a long time
Tormenting him of promises he wanted to believe in
Of desires trapped deep within his soul
He tried so not to listen
While in his heart he feared
One day her whispers would stop

And one day they did
Dooming him to forever walk alone
To continue his endless journey
One of unfulfilling conquests
Hopelessly seeking this love he had forsaken
Unable to overcome the fear etched in his heart
Finding only the emptiness of false promise
His heart forever to remain cold

She whispers to another now
The breeze carries the sound to his ears
His eyes close for a moment in memory
His heart stirs to the sound
And as a tear makes its journey down his face
He steps back to his path of comfort
Ever fearful, ever alone, his journey continues
