Dying To Live

The snow stung her face gloriously as
she made her first steps from her comfort.
The wind smelled of a hundred roses.
She was new to harshness of life.
She danced in the snow with the freedom
of a child.

The shelter had become her great protector
and her dark prison. She had been safe
from the perils and beauty of this world.
Now she drank the air in with such vigor
it made her want to scream with joy.

The impossible is now possible.
The ecstasy of heaven
and the passion of hell awaited her.
She knew her journey would not be easy
but she never felt so alive.

The cold winter would soon turn to the thaw
of spring and the rains would follow. This
time there would be no shelter from the rain.
And she wouldn’t miss it for the world.
