By His Own Hands

She lay bleeding beneath his cold breath.
Tears still welled up in her eyes.
The face he loved now dark and lifeless.
As he picked up her sweet body
she looked away from his gaze.
The devastation he brought
upon her would never leave him.
There was but one-way to heal her wounds.
He walked slowly toward the lake,
wiping the tears that struck
his heart numb from her cheek.
With every step he died.
Memories haunting him as he
strode toward the only answer.
He kissed her softly one last time.
She looked up at him and he felt all her pain.
Tears rolled down his face as he
looked at all the hurt in her eyes.
Gently he laid her in another’s arms.
He turned to go and saw what awaited him.
Blackness. For as far as the eye could see.
He began the long walk to his death.
Never looking back and never forgetting.
