NIGHTS CHILD BY URSULA  VERNON

The day’s first sun poured across her
face and her beauty was punishing.
To see through her eyes,
To know the secret of her smile ......
Too much to imagine.

He was consumed by her being.
The cruel destruction of her heart
that he could not repair.
The wreckage was beneath,
Unseen by all but felt by many.

A little girl crying,
masquerading as a woman.
Her secret kept inside
by a prison of humiliation.
Someone she had loved
wielded the instrument of this hurt.

She was comforted by pain,
her companion of many years.
Nothing he could say would heal the wound.
His love would never overcome her fear.
And he knew she would forever be …..
broken.
